Abstract: Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness, stability, and safety of treating mild form fruste keratoconus with custom photorefractive keratectomy (PRK).
Methods: Forty eyes of 20 patients with mild form fruste keratoconus underwent custom PRK (Visx S4 IR). UCVA, BCVA, topography, and wavefront aberrometry were evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively at 1, 3, and 6 months.
Results: Mean preoperative spherical equivalent was -5.47 D ± 1.91, and mean cylinder was 1.37 0.55, with a mean steep keratometry of 48.29 ± 0.92 D. BCVA improved in 12 eyes, remained the same in 26 eyes, and decreased one line in 2 eyes.
Conclusions: Custom PRK with registration achieves good visual results in patients with mild form fruste keratoconus. Long-term follow-up is necessary.
